Another run is in the books. But this one.......................was special. Coopersville Pabama is underway! Some Knights decided (possibly against better judgement) to brave the elements Thursday evening, and headed to Coopersville (not to be confused with Poopersville). We first began by loading up at the local Family Fare (SEE FUNNY STORY #1 BELOW). Groceries were the main focus, although DuBois did get sidetracked checking out bed sheets in the frozen food aisle - you will have to ask him about it. And Dyk kept trying to have fun while we were trying to stay focused. This load was delivered to my student Juan and his family. Stepdad Steve shoveled the walkway for us, acting like it was nothing exciting for us to be there. Had God revealed in a dream that he would be visited by Knights from the West bearing gifts? Possibly.
As soon as this was finished, we headed back to Family Fare where we realized we had forgotten to make a purchase for round #2 - chocolate love for the Hunter family. This was soon delivered (SEE FUNNY STORY #2 BELOW) and we were on our way slip-sliding our way back to Grand Haven. Thanks again for the push to get going home Dyk. I did kind of want to sleep over at your place, but getting home was probably a better plan.
Thanks again Knights.
Funny story #1 - a GREAT time was had meeting the newest Coopersville member of Pabama - Jake Visser! Jake jumped in head first and will definitely be a wonderful addition in the future (on the way to Coops, Jake stopped to help a motorist who had gone into the ditch - Pabama!). As we waited in the store entryway for Jake to arrive, I had told the guys to keep an eye open for a "big burly" looking guy. And wouldn't you know it, not even 30 seconds after I said that, a fella walked in who definitely met that description. And he came in just a smiling and hand shaking. He made some comments about the weather. And, as any true Knights would do, Dyk and DuBois welcomed the stranger into our fold by introducing themselves. A very nice gesture indeed. And that is when I shook my head and quietly mouthed "that's not Jake." But a very nice guy, he was. Jake showed up a few minutes later. Funny story #2 - driving up to the Hunter house to drop off a little care package, we were slightly uncertain as to the specific house. Dyk was driving, and had been there once before in the past, but it had been a while. Jake, from the back seat, and with some knowledge since he poured cement there this past fall, "yep, that is the house there, with the lights on." Sternberg, who had been there a few times in the past also, "yes, that looks like it." And finally Griswold, "it definitely look like the place we had visited in the past. I think I had a beer on that front lawn right there." So we walked up to the door, where, very slowly, Sternberg noticed that "it looks like they might have a baby-sitter because that is not Jeralyn". Eventually catching on, the Knights all realized too late that they were two houses down from the Hunters. I am sure God was laughing, at least.
